Christine Sponring races to the podium

January 26th, 2007

At the first women´s super G in San Sicario Head-Tyrolia athlete Christine Sponring raced to the podium sensationally. The Austrian started off first with bib 36 and almost left behind the whole World Cup elite on the piste called Fraiteve Olympique.

Second podium in Sponring´s career

Sponring raced a narrow line and braved the course which was already marked by lane grooves. In the finish the Head-Tyrolia racer clocked 1:25,80 minutes and so was only nine tenths of a second behind the winner. For the Austrian it was the second time on podium in her career. She had reached her first second place at the slalom in Copper Mountain in 2001. "I don´t really know how I did it. The slope was prepared well and I felt quite good", Sponring analyzed her coup. In doing so the Head-Tyrolia skier succeeded to jump on the podium in her very first super G at the World Cup.

Chances on a spot at the World Championships?

With the third place in San Sicario Sponring returns to the world elite right on time for the World Champioships and now can hope for a spot in the Austrian ski team. "The trainers have to decide ... perhaps", the Head-Tyrolia athlete answers the question for a possible participation in Swedish Are.
