At the alpine World Championships in Val d’Isère, France Didier Cuche missed his second title by only 4 hundredths of a second. In the Downhill the HEAD racer finished on second place and grabbed the silver medal.
Foggy conditions slowed down the favorites
Four days after his golden triumph in the Super-G event Didier Cuche presented himself with a top performance in the Downhill. The Swiss, racing for HEAD was unlucky in his run handicapped by difficult conditions. A fogbank in the mid section reducing visibility, made it tough for the top athletes to see all the ribs and whoops on the challenging slope “Face de Bellevarde“. Nearly unimpressed Cuche raced to the finish line missing the top score of 2:07.5 minutes only by 0.04 seconds.
Third medal in the Team event
After the race the anger about the small lag changed into pure happiness about the Silver medal. After the Super-G Gold Cuche is now celebrating the downhill silver medal. Next medal chance for the HEAD pilot is the Team event on Wednesday, February 11th.
