Lindsey Vonn wins and takes Globe in Super G
Three races and this was the third trip to the podium in Tarvisio for Lindsey Vonn but more importantly this was the third Globe wrapped up for the HEAD Speedoholic! Vonn is on a roll and has now taken twelve Crystal Globes in her career. With just six races left of the season, Lindsey Vonn and Maria Riesch are giving the ski racing fans a real spectacle. Riesch jumped onto the podium as well with third place.
Vonn, first of the top seeds to go, put her all in to the run. When she crossed the line at the finish she had edged her compatriot Leanne Ross out of the leaders spot by a comfortable seven tenths of a second. With the sun beating down on the Italian slope, Lizz Goergl then attacked Vonn’s time. Vonn is the one to beat in the speed races but this does not mean that the rest of the field was going to give her the race on a plate. Goergl could not better it and nor could Anja Paerson starting at twenty. Anna Fenninger struggled and then the temperature rose as Maria Riesch blasted out of the gate.
This was a real head to head fight. All Vonn could do was watch her friend from the leaders enclosure in the finish. All Riesch had to do was attack the course and better the time of the American. At times it looked promising and then small mistakes crept in. By the finish it was half a second in favour of the American and this meant a win for the Vonn and another Globe would be heading stateside!
This win for Vonn takes her within one of Anja Paerson on the all time list. Next up it is the tech events in Spindleruv Mlyn in the Czech Republic for the girls and Kvitfjel for the men.
