Gianluca Genoni has a successful and impressive career most will never attain. Many of his accomplishments include 18 world records in all of the traditional disciplines of apnea. This year Gianluca will attempt to add a new achievement and goal that merge two of his passions: love for the highest mountains and pursuing the depths of the ocean.
Gianluca and Sestero Onlus, have assembled a team of diverse sporting professionals encompassing a broad spectrum of expertise. They will test themselves with a challenge beginning at the “Cristo delle vette” statue, located at the top of the Monterosa Massif (4200M), ending at “Cristo Degli Abissi” (Christ of the Abyss) 13M deep in the waters of San Fruttuoso Bay, Liguria.
The challenge begins on July 16, 2013 and will be executed in a relay format. The ultimate goal is to promote “sustainable mobility” with a synergy of different disciplines: alpinism, cycling, running, canoeing, and scuba diving.
There are no limits to the extreme. During the event, athletes Elia Luini (canoeing), Stefano Zanini (cycling), Lucio Trucco (alpinism), and Gianluca Genoni (deep apnea) will all engage in the different disciplines. The team will cooperate with many sporting enthusiasts achieving the common goal of demonstrating that limits exist only in our mind and a more sustainable world is available to us all.
In addition to the mentioned athletes, an incredible support team will be necessary to accomplish this feat. A strong group of alpine guides from Gressoney will help people reach the Christ’s statue at altitude, many cyclists and hand-bikers to keep everyone’s spirits high during the long and fatiguing bicycle section, and last but not least, some of the best canoeists from the Navy League in Rapallo.
All proceeds will be donated to charity!
