HEAD Announces MicroGel Technology With New Tour Racquet Line

February 2nd, 2007

HEAD Racquetsports is launching two new racquets - the Extreme and the Extreme Pro - to offer aggressive, competitive players ultimate feel and unique touch through a new patented technology called MicroGel.

“In today’s fast-paced, aggressive game, competitive players need a racquet that provides ultimate feel,” said Robert Marte, Division Manager, HEAD Racquetsports. “Our new technology creates amazing response qualities and is wrapped up in cool-looking high-tech racquets.”

When combined with carbon composite fibers in the racquet head, MicroGel deforms and compresses upon ball impact, uniformly absorbing and distributing the impact load around the entire frame, creating a rock-solid feel while offering extra stability against twisting.

The difference of the Extreme and Extreme Pro to traditional racquets is immediately visible: HEAD changed the geometrics of the racquet head size, making it wider and rounder. This increased width can allow the ball to slide across a wider stringbed, generating greater spin velocity and giving more power to all hits.

Professional player Ivan Ljubicic recently joined the HEAD team and chose the Extreme Pro as his racquet. Ljubicic won his first tournament playing with the racquet, the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2007 in Doha.

“The game of tennis has changed a lot; it’s faster, more strategic and more aggressive. The new Extreme Pro gives me the extra touch, power and spin I need for today’s tennis,” said Ljubicic.

The two racquets introduced in the Extreme line will be available in pro/specialty and sporting goods stores in spring 2007.

In addition, HEAD recently introduced the new Tour Package, including the new Tour Team and Extreme bags and the Sonic Pro String. The new bag lines are designed with extreme abrasion and dirt resistant material on the bottom; longer, padded shoulder straps; metal buckles; and a detachable, adjustable, convertible shoulder strap system. Sonic Pro has a uniquely refined co-polymer polyester which allows for maximum control and softer touch, at an affordable price point.
