Murray Marches into Masters Cup Semi Final

November 12th, 2008

Andy Murray booked his place in the semi final at the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai winning his second successive match against HEAD fellow player Gilles Simon 6-4, 6-2. On Monday, the Scot defeated Andy Roddick in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. He will play his final Red Group match against No. 1 seed and four-time Masters Cup champion Roger Federer.

"Obviously there's a lot more pressure on him [Federer] to win than me," said Murray of his final group clash. "It will be the first time I've played him when I've not been under pressure. But I plan on trying to win the match."

Simon still has a good chance of reaching the semi final as well due to his first round victory against Roger Federer. In his last group match on Friday, he will face Radek Stepanek who replaced Andy Roddick after he retired from the competition.

"I could [have] come back to four games all, [but] I missed some easy shots," explained Simon. "Then it was the same in the second set 1-0, three more chance to break, and I missed it again. So that's why I was really nervous at the end of the match."

"But when you play these kind of players, it's never easy because he never misses a shot, so you have to play a good point to finish the game."
