Vonn secures win number 7 in a row in Lake Louise

First there was the crushing win in the first downhill, then the determined and character defining win in the second downhill race; finally Vonn gave the Women’s World Cup a Super G lesson. This was win number seven in a row for the HEAD World Cup Rebel in Lake Louise, breaking the record that had been held by Anja Paerson. Vonn now also stands second on her own in terms of World Cup wins. As for the records from the Super G, it was a HEAD World Cup Rebels clean sweep of the podium as Julia Mancuso scored her first podium of the season ahead of Anna Fenninger.

Anna Fenninger was the first of the top seeds on the course and after having been disappointed with her result from the second downhill, felt she had something to show. This was a determined and hard fought run that saw her take the lead in commanding fashion.

The lead did not last long as next racer down, Julia Mancuso, demonstrated her skills to take the lead, just. Maria Hoefl-Riesch then made it a 1-2-3 for the HEAD racers as the next racer down.

Nothing was going to stop Lindsey Vonn taking her seventh win in a row in Lake Louise and become the first racer, male or female to win three times on a row, in two different seasons. Vonn was fast, she was smooth and she was dynamic. And more importantly she had the quickest time at the finish securing a HEAD 1-2-3.

Vonn was racing on empty and said after the race: "I was totally empty today. I woke up and I was so tired. I tried to conserve energy; I did less warm up runs. I just tried to be as prepared as I could be for the race today. It was tough. I gave it everything I had and now I'm completely dead.”

Mancuso knew she had been close to Vonn having been just three hundredths off at the mid split and then “I made up all this time on her and then she pulled in front by 0.4 seconds so…."

Fenninger was happy with her result, the second time that she has been on the podium in Lake Louise: "the race for me here is one of my favourite races every year in the Super G. I love the steep section, and every year I'm very fast. After the last 2 days it’s very important for me to be in front in the finish. It’s also important to know I can ski fast if it’s snowing or bad weather or bad conditions. It's very good for my confidence and I'm happy.”
